Audio Lead
The role ambition
Our games have always treated audio as part of the play rather than a layer on top of it. This project takes that further. We want music and sound design that blur into each other, where what the player does and what the player hears are part of the same idea.
You'll set the creative direction and own the audio end to end. You might write the music yourself, or you might bring in a composer you already work well with. We have budget for collaborators, and we care more about how well you direct and integrate other people's work than about you doing everything solo. As we move into full production, you'll grow a small audio team around your direction.
We are a people-centric company aiming to make a positive impact in the world.
About you
Lead-level experience setting audio direction on a game, taken through the full production cycle
Deep FMOD experience: interactive music, state-driven mixing and event-based systems. FMOD is our studio middleware
Confidence working in Unity to integrate and tune audio in-scene. You don't need to write engine code, and we can pair you with a programmer where needed
A portfolio showing music and sound working together, with a clear point of view on how audio shapes play
Experience directing or collaborating with composers, sound designers or other audio contributors
Git for source control
Desirable:
A shipped PC or console title
Voice direction experience
Scripting or middleware integration experience
Composing experience of your own, alongside sound design
What you'll be doing
Setting the creative audio direction for the game, working directly with our Creative Director and alongside our other leads
Creating and directing sound design and music, whether made by you or by composers and collaborators you brief and integrate
Building dynamic, player-responsive audio systems in FMOD, including music states, mix states, looping and event-driven audio
Implementing and testing audio in Unity scenes, working closely with design and programming
Owning audio quality across the project, including audio QA and the final mix
Growing and leading a small audio team as the project moves beyond the vertical slice
Important details
This role is a 12 month fixed-term contract, salaried as a preference, but we are also open to day-rate contractors or an arrangement through your own audio studio collective.
For Fixed term hires, most benefits are offered and matched to our permanent team: BUPA private medical, pension, profit share, flexible working, enhanced parental leave, 25 days holiday plus paid sick leave.
Remote-friendly. We don't have an audio studio on-site, so you'll work from your own setup with your own equipment. We'd be happy to accommodate you in our London (Oval) studio around once a month for leads meetings and collaboration days
