Senior 3D Environment Artist

We’re looking for an experienced Senior 3D Environment Artist to help us create a beautiful and atmospheric world for our next game.

You’ll be joining a diverse team working on a project in early development. You will take part in explorative work, with a small team, to help define the steps towards pre-production.

12 Month FTC · Full-Time · Hybrid

The visual ambition

We made Monument Valley, Alba and Desta; games known for minimalist, graphic-design-led visuals that don't chase trends. The new project carries that DNA into full 3D: painterly, colourful, sitting between realistic and stylised, where lighting, colour and materials do the heavy lifting rather than dense geometry.

We're looking for a portfolio with bold colour, strong shape language and a willingness to experiment, so Artists who take influences from editorial design, illustration and graphic design excite us more than traditional environment art. Wacky beats safe.

We are a people-centric company aiming to make a positive impact in the world.

About you

  • Senior-level ownership: you'll be the primary environment artist on the vertical slice phase of the project, so self-motivation and initiative are essential

  • Full-pipeline 3D environment craft, with strong composition, colour and shape language sensibilities

  • Blender proficiency is preferred, as you'll collaborate directly in files with our Lead Artist

  • Unity Engine proficiency - our games are made in Unity.

  • A technical lean towards lighting especially, or shaders and materials, to complement your environment work (you'll share this ground with our Technical Artist)

Desirable:

  • A shipped PC or console title

  • Amplify or Shader Graph experience

  • A keen interest in graphic design

What you'll be doing

  • Defining visual aspirations for areas of the game alongside our Lead Artist, who stays hands-on and collaborative

  • Owning the full environment pipeline: modelling in Blender, texturing, dressing and composing scenes in Unity

  • Lighting your own work; this matters to us as much as the modelling

  • Applying art treatments to whitebox scenes using Unity and our internal tools

  • Experimenting and iterating from playtesting and feedback, in tight loops with a small team

Important details

  • This role is a 12 month fixed-term contract, salaried as a preference, but we are also open to day-rate contractors.

  • For Fixed term hires, most benefits are offered and matched to our permanent team: BUPA private medical, pension, profit share, flexible working, enhanced parental leave, 25 days holiday plus paid sick leave.

  • We can hire Hybrid or Remote, with hours that overlap the team's.

  • Time together at our London (Oval) studio is encouraged where possible, especially early on, but we're not limiting this search by geography. Our preference is to have some weekly in-studio time, but we will consider strong applicants who are based anywhere in the UK or Europe, with preparedness for travel to the studio regularly.
