Senior Programmer
The role ambition
Our programming team is currently made up of our Lead Programmer and one Senior. Joining now means you're not a cog in a codebase: your first three months are spent helping establish the game's architecture, building systems robust enough to survive pre-production's changes of direction, with a genuine authorial stake in how this game gets built.
We are a people-centric company aiming to make a positive impact in the world.
About you
Senior-level experience across the full production cycle; prototyping through to shipping, with at least one shipped title
Strong Unity/C# craft on 3D games
Genuinely good 3D maths as this project will lean on it harder than most
Self-direction: you can take an ambiguous problem, break it down, and drive it without hand-holding
Cross-discipline fluency and being comfortable explaining technical trade-offs to designers and artists, and listening back
Experience working with Git
Desirable:
PC/console shipping experience, including certification and platform optimisation
Experience with unconventional cameras, perspective or physics-driven gameplay
Secondary skills; design, art, audio, which help make you a better prototyper
A habit of writing things down and good documentation
What you'll be doing
Designing and building core game systems and architecture through pre-production and beyond
Reading and adapting existing code from our previous titles into the new project
Prototyping quickly with design and art, then hardening what survives into maintainable, performant production code
Owning problems end-to-end: analysing, prioritising and executing autonomously, with Nacho as a partner rather than a supervisor
Bringing a creative voice to the game itself, not just its code
You will help build a codebase that can be iterated during development and is performant and maintainable after release.
You will be mentored and supported to learn and develop your skills
Important details
This role is a 12 month fixed-term contract, salaried as a preference, but we are also open to day-rate contractors.
For Fixed term hires, most benefits are offered and matched to our permanent team: BUPA private medical, pension, profit share, flexible working, enhanced parental leave, 25 days holiday plus paid sick leave.
We can hire Hybrid or Remote, with hours that overlap the team's.
Time together at our London (Oval) studio is encouraged where possible, especially early on, but we're not limiting this search by geography. Our preference is to have some weekly in-studio time, but we will consider strong applicants who are based anywhere in the UK or Europe, with preparedness for travel to the studio regularly.
